What are the cutting blades made of in a Piranha Woodchipper?

Let’s talk about the cutting knives behind all the action on a Piranha Woodchipper?

In the BT300, we use standard specification chipper blades manufactured in Melbourne AUSTRALIA by WH Blakeley who are a specialist knife manufacturer originally established in 1867 by William Henry Blakeley. Using specially modified A8 knife steel sourced from the World’s best steel suppliers in Europe, WH Blakeley have a unique manufacturing process for their Wildfire chipper blades that has been perfected after nearly 150 years of experience in manufacturing and sharpening steel for commercial cutting operations.

The #022 Wildfire chipper blade which the BT300 uses is a 10” (254mm) wide, 5 bolt knife design which is standard dimensions / specifications on many other American manufactured brush chippers, and this ensures that these blades are normally readily stocked and available at any woodchipper specialist Australia wide should you need new supplies. The BT300 drumchipper design uses four of these blades in a staggered, off-set cutter design and gives the BT300 a full cutting width of 500mm across the whole drum.

Thanks to the special manufacturing process and heat-treatment cycles used, WH Blakeley believe that their Wildfire chipper knives typically outperform other chipper blades by a factor of 3:1 which means you are more productive and working for longer before the blades need to be rotated or removed for sharpening / replacing. WH Blakeley have a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility right here in Clayton, VICTORIA and are equipped with the latest technology and CNC machinery which allows them to continuously be at the front of chipper knife developments ensuring that their sharp cutting edge remains for the longest time possible when working out in the field!

WH Blakeley are another local Australian-made manufacturer which Piranha has partnered with to supply the highest-quality wood chippers available, made here in Australia!
